Early in her career, Hilda focused on documenting the traditions and lifestyles of villagers in Polesie, a forested region straddling modern-day Lithuania, Belarus, and Poland. Her fieldwork, influenced by Dorfman, emphasized firsthand, systematic observation and collection of folklore: songs, tales, customs, and material culture.
After Poland regained independence in 1918, Hildas focus included applying ethnographic insights to sociocultural reconstruction. In Katowice, she remained active in research and teaching, supporting younger scholars and institutions.
